Randomized moss mask based on position
During the past 5 weeks I have been working with four great artists on my first Beyond Extent Team Challenge. The theme was 'Kingdom Below' and our take was an underground city built around the importance of water trade, where the ringing of the bell marks the beginning of the trading season.
The project started with one week of concept development followed by four weeks of production. Almost every asset in the scene was created by our team, with the exception of the fire VFX and the UE water plugin.
My main contribution was developing a modular wood kit designed to quickly populate the harbor and market areas while still allowing for a lot of visual variation. The kit included eight planks, seven different beams/posts, three wood material variations, and a set of blueprints for stands, crates, cranes, and other market props. I also created a collection of vases for decoration and spent quite a bit of time set dressing the market area on the left side of the scene using assets made by the whole team.
The wood kit became a very flexible system for building background areas fast. The planks were also used for floors, tables, chairs, and smaller crates. The tent blueprints in this project also featured beautiful cloth assets made by Hugo Parussini.
I’m also very happy to share that our project won the first ever community vote! Very glad to see people enjoyed our work.
Huge thanks to the team for all the hard work and collaboration throughout the challenge. Don't forget to check their great work too!
